My first cover from Lithuania Thanks you so much Leonardas!
The Lithuanian Hound is a hunting dog breed originated in Lithuania, dating back to the 16th century, used for hunting foxes, boars and hares.
The breed is considered to be rare and does not seem to attract any attention outside of its country of origin where they were almost extinct by the end of the Second World War. Due to the efforts of enthusiasts the breed slowly increased in numbers, but after the fall of the Soviet Union numbers dwindled again, with only 150 individuals existing by 1998.
The Lithuanian hound is a medium sized dog, with a life expectancy of 12 to 14 years.
Lietuvos Paštas issued the 1,50 € stamp on the cover, illustrated with a beautiful image of a Lithuanian hound on 29SEP2023.
The postmark hails from Kaišiadorys, a town in central Lithuania.
