POSTCARD N.201 - KOSOVO
Postcard sent on the 27th November; received in December 2025.
Postcard image: Landmarks from the city of Prizren
_________________________________________________________________________________
My friend The Phantom strikes again.... this time from the Balkans, from the city of Prizren, in the small state of Kosovo.
Danke sehr Alex! Kosovo is not one of those places from where one gets mail often, so it is really nice to be able to add this postcard to the collection.
After a bit of searching in Google Earth I think I have identified the four landmarks in the card views. From the left upper corner, clockwise, we have:
- A view of the Lumbardhi River
- The Arasta Mosque
- The Hamam of Gaza Mehmet Pasha
- The Catholic Cathedral of Our Lady of Perpetual Succour
In 2021, in the midst of the Covid pandemic, several postal administrations issued stamps themed on Covid as a way to raise awareness to the vaccination campaigns and also as an homage to the health professionals that gave their best to help people in need of medical care.
Kosovo was one of the countries that went this way, issuing a 4 se-tenant stamp strip (0.30; 0,40; 050; 0.60 €), on 08OCT2021, of which the 0.40 € stamp was used in this postcard.
The 0.10 € stamp featuring an European Common blue butterfly (Polyommatus Icarus), a member of the Lycaenidae family which can be found throughout the entire palearctic, is the 2025 reprint of the original stamp issued in 2012.
